Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #38 – Positive affirmation

hello everyone!!

it has been quite a month for me and i am so very excited to be sharing with you here today that I am now a part of the Mixed Media Monthly team!!!!

and with that I am here today to post my first project for Mixed Media Monthly!! (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.ca/2017/06/mixed-media-monthly-challenge-38 NULL.html)

As you will know, each month means a new challenge at Mixed Media Monthly (http://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.com/ NULL. NULL. NULL./mixed-media-monthly NULL. NULL. NULL.), and this month our theme is “Altered Embellishments!

for my first challenge  with this team i was lucky enough to jump in using chipboard from UmWowStudio.

(https://2 NULL.bp NULL.blogspot NULL.com/-C7YEt98VJ5c/WVY1vjwUDgI/AAAAAAAAMIU/1q-FLkl2aMEonilPve74_Q52wbsVffkDQCLcBGAs/s1600/mixedmedia38umwow NULL.jpg)

UmWowStudio (https://umwowstudio NULL.com/)is an innovative – on trend – chipboard manufacturer located in Las Vegas, NV. Partnering with other companies & now amazing designers (this months design was created by our very talented Lynne Forsythe (http://lynneforsythe NULL.blogspot NULL.com/)) their line is always expanding. The  chipboard is extra thick with a beautiful rich kraft finish ready for any medium.

okay before we go any further, here is the graphic for this month and if you decide to play in our challenge, remember to add it to your post if you want to be in with a chance to win our sponsor’s prize! You can read all about it HERE (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.ca/2017/07/mixed-media-monthly-challenge-38 NULL.html#comment-form).

so for my project i had been planning on creating a positive affirmation sign in the entry way for when students/customers come and visit the studio so this was the perfect opportunity to create it using  chipboard bits!!

so i started with a base that I had created using  paper leather,  a TCW stencil, some crackle paste and some Emerald Creek embossing powder.

I then cut out a couple of flower pedals using the Eileen Hull Romance Flower die from Kunin felt and some canvas, added a bit of colour and  a bit of fabric stiffener, smooshed and then wrapped them in cling wrap to sit for the night

i am a self proclaimed hoarder of all things shiny but i thought it was time to use my little salvaged doll so off she went into a baggie with some alcohol in in red pepper

and then for the last step, after placing everything where i thought i wanted it on my framed panel to which i had added some patina effects, it was time to tackle my chipboard pieces.

so i played them down, dabbed some embossing ink on them and then sprinkled them with my all time favourite (well one of them anyway) embossing powders and then heat set them.. LOVE how these turned out and how they could be used and not having to worry about warping!!

and then using a bit of hot glue placed all bits together and here you have it..my completed project for the Mixed Media Monthly Design team!

thanks for stopping by !!! now how about sharing what you can do with some altered embellishments!! join us over at MMM challenge post (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.com/2017/07/mixed-media-monthly-challenge-38 NULL.html), check out the rules, and share share share!!!

turning 50

hello everyone

i am here today to share with you one of what i am sure to be many pieces i am sure to be creating from the beautiful photo’s from my wonderful ‘turning 50’ trip. it was a trip that i had imagined but never thought it would be possible.. seeing the sunset on my last night being in my 40’s and the sunrise on my first day of my 50’s in one of the most beautiful awe inspiring no words can describe place on earth.

for this my first project,  i started out by layering tissue paper and other bits onto a framed panel (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.com/product/Tim-Holtz-Idea-ology-MINI-FRAMED-PANELS-Structures-TH93582-TH93582?currency=USD) using matte medium. i then used many different things from paint, to sprays, clear texture paste, crackle and vintage mediums. i coloured using my distress crayons, archival inks and some more paint until i was happy with the background.

i added some remnant rubs in both black and gold both on the background, the frame and the card to give it some added depth. the ’50’ is from a birthday card i received and were so perfect from me that i wanted to be able to keep them in a piece. so i embossed and debossed and inked and stained and rubbed and sanded until i got it to the place i wanted it to be.the wings represent the love of life both in the here and now as well as for those gone before me. i am a very blessed soul who does love life and never take for granted every breath i take. the three little pearls are there to represent those ladies in my life who went before me and who if it wasn’t for them i wouldn’t be who i am… my mom, my nanny and my aunt ruby.

i truly hope you all have a wonderfully blessed and happy week!

flowers and butterflies oh my!

hello everyone!!

today I am here to show you a quick project that I have been working on using a few of my favourite sizzix dies and finally playing with my distress crayons (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.com/product/Tim-Holtz-Distress-Crayons-SET-1-TDBK47902-TDBK47902RI)!

so basically I used a smaller canvas which I covered in paper, both text and scrapbook paper, a thin layer of  gesso to blend it together,  matte medium and lots of distress crayons and that is what I started with.

I then started the whole process of covering  a few pieces of mixed media cardstock (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.com/product/Ranger-MIXED-MEDIA-CARDSTOCK-ISD44628-ISD44628RI)with the same matte medium and distress crayons along with some texture paste to create Eileen Hulls Heart and Soul (http://www NULL.sizzix NULL.com/661108/sizzix-bigz-die-flower-heart-soul)and Pansy flowers (http://www NULL.sizzix NULL.com/661109/sizzix-bigz-die-flower-pansy)and of course Tim Holtz butterfly frenzy (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.com/product/Tim-Holtz-Sizzix-Die-BUTTERFLY-FRENZY-Decorative-Strip-Sizzlits-659575-64384). and here you have the whole thing!butterfly flurry

the back of the flowers and leaves were simply stamped using a background script stamp. I love how the texture paste added that little bit of extra to the flowers. for the Spring Leaves (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.com/product/Sizzix-LEAVES-SPRING-Bigz-Die-661111--661111SZ?currency=USD), I used the two green distress crayons and blended them to give the variation in colour!

eileen hull flowers and leaves

when cutting out the flurry of butterflies I had cut a few out of the paper that had the texture paste… love how they turned out too!!tim holtz butterfly

by far the Limitations (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.com/product/Tim-Holtz-Sizzix-Framelits-LIMITATIONS-Wafer-Thin-Die-And-Stamp-Set-660189-660189TH?currency=USD) stamp/die set is my  favourite combo yet. so much so a little funny story.. I have ‘lost’ mine a couple of time’s and reordered to have only found it again and ended up with 5 sets!! like is said.. my favourite!!

so here you have my newest little piece of art

nothing like a dream

it’s a smaller canvas so just the perfect size to hang in my studio or to set on my desk

if you have any questions please let me know!!

I am entering this into the following challenges:

color burst project

hello everyone!!

today i am here to share with you my final piece in my yoga series. this one features me!

so i decided this time that i wanted my background to be a more subtle colour with the focus being on the actual chakras. so let’s get started with the show and tell!

so i started with a  few of the ‘warm’ color burst colours onto my canvas color burst

I then made my picture I wanted to use for this piece and placed the chakras in spot. I traced the spots onto my canvas and using color burst and a paint brush painted them in place

chakras beginning

to seal these so I could put my figure and not in I used some liquid glass (http://decoart NULL.com/mixedmedia/liquid-glass) to protect them

but then I had another idea….why not make the whole background my chakra colours and so the adding of layers began!!

change of plans

i love layering my color burst and heat blasting it with my gun!!

color burst richnessnow it was time to paint on my figure using some black gesso (http://decoart NULL.com/mixedmedia/gesso)

painting in me

now here is my piece set aside waiting to dry

chakra and mei then inked the edges of my piece using the black gesso and once again set it aside to dry..

the final step was to add that layer of Ice Resin to my piece. here it s finished

chakra yogi

and here they are, all hung up in my room!!
