Emerald Creek is one year old!!

hello everyone!!

today is a very special day … it is the one year anniversary of Emerald Creek entered our world!!  i can’t believe in one way it’s been a year and then in another way think i’ve only known Kim for a year???

for this months she had asked all her design team, current and former, to create something in celebration but with the category of ‘anything goes’… well here is my project.

emerald creek Sun Mask (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.org/product-p/g0005j NULL.htm) and the Moon Mask (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.org/product-p/g0006j NULL.htm)  are two stamps i have had for a while and i wasn’t sure at the time why they wanted to come live with me but i am sure glad they did!!

so out came a few of my supplies and i started creating. using cut N dry stamp felt i was able to make my own stamp pad so i didn’t have to worry about inking up the stamp with different colours each time

once the image was stamped using distress ink and embossed with clear embossing powder (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.org/Clear-Embossing-Powder-p/ecc-110 NULL.htm) it was time to add the paint (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.org/product-p/dp-paint NULL.htm) and the ink and the collage medium

emerald-creek-collage

what did i make… well i made a simple tictactoe game using Eileen Hull’s ATB’s (http://www NULL.sizzix NULL.com/658058/sizzix-scoreboards-xl-die-box-square), some mat board (http://www NULL.sizzix NULL.com/656491/sizzix-little-sizzles-6-x-13-mat-board-pack-6-cream-sheets)and a canvas frame. it was such a fast and simple project to create and has already brought us lots of fun playing!

Here’s to another successful year filled with Emerald Creek adventures!

Emerald Creek open challenge

hello everyone!!

did you know that today, April 7th is National Tartan Day!!! neither did i until Kim from Emerald Creek Designs (http://blog NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/2016/04/national-tartan-day-heck-ya-anything NULL.html)told me..  now today’s challenge is suppose to be anything goes but heck why not attempt to honour this day by creating my own tartan!!!

so off i went into creative mode and my biggest decision was which medium will i use and i decided on Tim Holtz distress paints (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/product-p/dp-paint NULL.htm) with a finish touch of using one of Emerald Creeks brads (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/Silver-with-Blue-Jewelled-Brad-6-pkg-p/br-jbb NULL.htm)

so here is my process:

i first start out with a sheet of Sizzix Paper leather (http://www NULL.scrapbook NULL.com/store/sz-661150 NULL.html) in pink. i applied various colours of distress paint, turning each time i swiped paint with a pallet knife. I then placed and cut out one of Eileen Hull’s Recipe Card Holder (http://www NULL.scrapbook NULL.com/store/sz-659876 NULL.html?w=recipe) by SizzixPaper leather and EH recipe card holder

i then laid it out and decided that i need somehow to create a ‘tartan effect’ in diana style to it. so out came some tape ( i am not even sure what kind it was but it was sticky so i used it!!) i cut it in the length required to cover the length of the project but tore it so that my lines were not all going to be the same

taping my recipe boxi then used a distress paint to dab colour onto the recipe card box and this is what is was left with when i removed the tape

recipe box layeringokay.. so that isn’t exactly the look i was going for so our came the tape again!!

Eileen Hull recipe box holder

now that is much better but still wasn’t quite what i was looking for…. and lookie here what just arrived in my studio.. the new Dylusion paint pens (http://www NULL.scrapbook NULL.com/store/ri-dyd50902 NULL.html) and they were perfect for the pop i was looking for.

dylusion paint pens and EH die

next it was time to do a bit of decorating inside the recipe box holder so out came my Kimilese stamp (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/product-p/s0210r NULL.htm) and my Wendy Vecchi potting soil ink pad

Kimilese stamp and potting soiland now it was time to do a bit of stitching around the entire outside edge of my holder (i forgot the pictures sorry!!)

so for this creation i needed to be sure the sides and bottom were sturdy so i cut out pieces of cardboard, glued them in place and then covered them using scraps from he original cut

making my EH recipe card holder sturdyand now here you have it..my creation for this months dare for Emerald Creek Designs.

EH recipe card holderto secure it closed i chose the jewelled brad (http://jewelled brad) and using one of tim’s elastic holders i rigged it up so it stayed closed.

here is the back of my travel set.backwait did i say travel set??? did i mean recipe card holder????

Recipe card holder Manicure set yes!! it’s a travel set!!Recipe card holder close up complete with a little mirror i created using a piece of Tim’s mirrored sheet (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.com/product/Tim-Holtz-Idea-ology-MIRRORED-Sheets-TH93029-47073)inside manicure setabsolutely chuffed with how this turned out!!!! i have already had requests to make some for others….

now if only i am willing to share my Paper Leather Sheets.. (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.com/product/Sizzix-PAPER-LEATHER-SHEETS-ASSORTED-BASICS-6x6-Paper-661146-661146sz)………

so be sure to visit the rest of the team and see what they have come up with!

Family Portraits- Easter bonnets

hello everyone!

this weeks challenge over at Emerald Creek Dares (http://blog NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/2016/03/easter-parade NULL.html)
is all about spring time… easter, bunnies, powder

today I am here to share with you a quick Easter family photo from my home to yours

all my ladies and their spring bonnets were created using Emerald Creek Embossing powder in clear and they were coloured using Distress Markers

embossing powder

so let’s start with Ms. Cleopatra. she is a green eyed beauty of  a girl with a rich black coat with brown undertones….she is the more trainable of the three. she has epilepsy and is given medication at meal times twice a day.. she starts about an hour before meal time staring us down and jumping at our every move in hopes that we are heading to the kitchen to feed her

next we have Ms. Ruby. she belongs to my son but has been living with us for the last year. she is the golden eyed “curvaceous” one of the pack. she has been working on her singing skills in the basement lately and has developed a 4 word vocabulary with the most used one being ‘hello’!Ms. Ruby

and here we have Ms.Money. she was given this name as we figure she would be the only money we will ever have in the house. she is the cuddliest of the three and demands it pretty much constantly. in case we somehow forget how cute she is she rolls around showing us her belly and reminds us… she really is adorable
Ms. Money

so here you have it..  the three of the most loved creatures on earth (in our opinion) this is what our family looks likeour cat famiy

but wait a minute.. remember we were challenged to use an egg in our projects this round… did you see mine yet!! nope probably not!!

they are hidden behind Ms. Cleo!!

three blind mice

but you see they aren’t really eggs but MICE!! the three blind mice (because really have you ever tried painting eyes on an egg!)

also be sure to visit the rest of the team and see what they have come up with!

Emerald Creek Dares – Spring

hello everyone!!

this weeks challenge over at Emerald Creek Dares (http://Emerald Creek Dares)
is all about the spring!

so when i think of spring i think of all the things that are coming but nothing more than flowers and the return of the birds

so i started off using some Yup0 paper and some alcohol inks in blue tones followed by red. for the red i allowed it to just run and dry to form the darker edges

Yup paper project

next i added the centre of my flower and the stem using doodlestix (https://www NULL.imaginecrafts NULL.com/learn-doodlestix). it was so simple. i just squired the alcohol ink onto my craft mat and dipped the tool into it and then added to my page

creating a poppy

isn’t that seriously cool!

next it was time to add another piece of spring and for me there isn’t much more perfect than the hummer (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/ProductDetails NULL.asp?ProductCode=A0072E) stamp!  i stamped it onto my page and then sprinkled some clear embossing powder (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/Clear-Embossing-Powder-p/ecc-110 NULL.htm)and then moving quickly i heat set it. you have to be careful when doing this for a couple of reasons.. one you are heating alcohol ink and two the paper tends to warp if you aren’t quick enough

Emerald Creek hummer

so following the same steps, picking up the ink with the doodlestix i coloured my hummer. i love how the embossed edges almost gave it a stopping point from the alcohol ink from spreading

colouring with alcohol ink

i applied a coat of silver paint to my frame and then once dried dripped some alcohol ink onto it as welltim holtz frame and alcohol ink

and here you have it.. my ode to spring mini canvas for my wall!

little things

i hope you enjoyed the process i showed you in how i created my piece. as always any questions do send my way. i love to share what i have discovered.

also be sure to visit the rest of the team and see what they have come up with!

a lucky coaster!

hello everyone! i am here this month to show you a quick and easy project i created for Emerald Creek Dares (http://blog NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca) for this weeks challenge –  Lucky Clover

emerald creek with ice resin

i started by tracing my coaster onto a  piece of Emerald Creeks 100lb cardstock (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/100lb-Cardstock-p/cs0001 NULL.htm). then using various greens from the Distress pain (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/product-p/dp-paint NULL.htm)t line i dripped them onto the paper prior to  spraying  them with water. i then used an air can to spread the paint across the page. (totally forgot to take a picture of it but as you can see it spread it out nicely!)  i set this aside to dry

emerald creek and distress paints

next i took one of my mover and shapers and cut out four hearts which i covered with glossy accents. once covered i dipped into the jar of distress glitter.

EC glitter and gloss

now it was time to decide what i wanted on my coaster. so out came a retired but so loved Emerald Creek stamp, archival ink and clear embossing powder (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/Clear-Embossing-Powder-p/ecc-110 NULL.htm)i stamped and embossed my background.

ec with archival and paints

i then heat set it to make sure it was completely drive

Emerald Creek clear embossing powdernext i added some chit chat stickers and because this is the second in a set i also applied a generous coat of Ice Resin to protect my coaster

emerald creek with ice resinso now that it was completely dry i noticed that when cutting down the paper it doesn’t quite go to the edges so out came my burnt copper leaves (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/Burnt-Copper-Leaves-Embossing-Powder-p/ehse-0008 NULL.htm)embossing powder and i applied to the edges in places around my coaster

emerald creek burnt copper leavesand here you have it.. a ‘lucky’ surface to hold that cup of liquid!!

can you guess what is in my glass!!

emerald creek lucky clover

lucky clover wine holderLOL.. not what you thought right!!!

now i am a huge believer in ‘creating your own luck’ in life. the more positive you are, the more you send your intentions out in the universe, the ‘luckier’ of a life you shall leave. this coaster will be my reminder of that for those days i forget!

now it’s your turn to enter the challenge over at Emerald Creek (http://blog NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.ca/2016/01/valentines-is-not-in-air NULL.html) and check out what the rest of the amazing Design team have created.
