TCW – stenciling furniture

hello everyone!

isn’t it hard to believe that August is almost over! where has this month gone.. this month i decided to add a bit of colour to my space

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

so I opened my home studio over a year ago and I just used old kitchen cabinets for storage and old tables with an added pressboard top for my workshops and they were working really well…but everything was darkish.   so I took it upon myself to paint the cabinets and well  since i did have lots of paint left over I figured why not paint the desk tops too!!

but then I couldn’t just leave them white right!! so I decided I would brighten them up just a bit and after choosing the Stained Glass stencils  and deciding i wanted to create a row using the colours of our chakras I began

i applied various colours through each stencil to create variation through out and kept going until i was happy.

i just kept sponging and mixing until i had all seven of the stencils in place

as much as  i love the crisper lines i wanted my image to appear aged so taking a baby wipe i wiped down each ring

now that is what i wanted!!  the table looked incomplete with just the 7 images down the centre so i took out the 6×6 of the same stencil and stencilled the corners as well as TCW261s and using the black licorice paint i bordered my tables. i purposefully didn’t use the entire stencil each time because once again i wanted that aged look

now for the final touch i used a couple of different tapes around the entire table

and here you have it.. my completed table tops

the crown chakra colours to the root chakra colours is what will greet my customers when they come in

and from where i sit and create is the root chakra colours to the crown chakra coloursi hope you have been inspired to use your stencils on pieces around your home. i have not stopped thinking about what i could stencil next!!!

A QUICK TIP:  something i did learn though this whole process is that one should always make sure to take note of where the bottom of your stencil is for those times you wanted to line it back up again to add colour.

Supplies used:

TCW261s (http://store NULL.thecraftersworkshop NULL.com/?s=tcw261&post_type=product) – art is

TCW – Joyful Sunflower canvas bag

hello everyone!!

holy what a summer it has been so far right! I am not sure about you all but for me it has been and has it ever gone quickly!!!

today I am here to share with you my very first project created for  The Crafter’s Workshop blog (http://www NULL.thecraftersworkshop NULL.blogspot NULL.com/) .

I had this bag at home that I knew I quite liked but a little too plain for me….in other words not a lick of colour! So I just knew that I needed to alter it.

I started out by smearing some gesso (http://store NULL.thecraftersworkshop NULL.com/product/tcw9001-white-gesso/) across the centre of the bag. I didn’t want to cover the whole thing but wanted a spot for a variance of colour.  I then chose to use TCW575-Joyful Sunflower (http://store NULL.thecraftersworkshop NULL.com/product/tcw575-joyful-sunflower/) to create the centre piece for my bag. So using some modelling paste (http://store NULL.thecraftersworkshop NULL.com/product/tcw9005-modeling-paste/) I filled the centre of the flower and then picked up the stencil and allowed that portion to dry.

Now you need to bear with me a bit as it seems like this is going one way but ends up in a totally different place!! LOL

So now that the centre was dry, I laid the stencil back in place and then I started applying DecoArt Media Mister in  primary magenta.  (after making a mask to cover the centre of my flower)

Next, I started applying some paints using a make up sponge, each time laying the stencils back in place between drying times….I liked where it was going….

Now this is where it gets a little interesting.   I  thought I might change it up a bit. I loved, and was going for the brightness of the colours, but then decided that I should add a bit of white paint through the stencil

Yes, I am liking this but it still wasn’t quite what I wanted. So once again I placed the stencil back down and this time I layered a thick layer of gel medium (http://store NULL.thecraftersworkshop NULL.com/product/tcw9011-matte-gel-medium-8-oz/) and then sprinkled some seed beads onto it and set it all aside to dry

Now it was almost finished but not quite.. i dug out my jar of black gesso/water mixture and outlined all the petals (or tried too!) and here you have it once again.. my finished bag

I sure hope you have stuck with me from the beginning to see how my process went from a plain bag to the finished piece!

We would love to see what you create with The Crafter’s Workshop Stencils and Mediums.
You can share it with us on our Facebook page (https://www NULL.facebook NULL.com/TheCraftersWorkshop/?fref=ts), Instagram (https://www NULL.instagram NULL.com/tcwstencils/), Twitter, and Pinterest (https://www NULL.pinterest NULL.com/tcwstencils/) using hashtag #tcwstencillove.

Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #38 – Positive affirmation

hello everyone!!

it has been quite a month for me and i am so very excited to be sharing with you here today that I am now a part of the Mixed Media Monthly team!!!!

and with that I am here today to post my first project for Mixed Media Monthly!! (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.ca/2017/06/mixed-media-monthly-challenge-38 NULL.html)

As you will know, each month means a new challenge at Mixed Media Monthly (http://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.com/ NULL. NULL. NULL./mixed-media-monthly NULL. NULL. NULL.), and this month our theme is “Altered Embellishments!

for my first challenge  with this team i was lucky enough to jump in using chipboard from UmWowStudio.

(https://2 NULL.bp NULL.blogspot NULL.com/-C7YEt98VJ5c/WVY1vjwUDgI/AAAAAAAAMIU/1q-FLkl2aMEonilPve74_Q52wbsVffkDQCLcBGAs/s1600/mixedmedia38umwow NULL.jpg)

UmWowStudio (https://umwowstudio NULL.com/)is an innovative – on trend – chipboard manufacturer located in Las Vegas, NV. Partnering with other companies & now amazing designers (this months design was created by our very talented Lynne Forsythe (http://lynneforsythe NULL.blogspot NULL.com/)) their line is always expanding. The  chipboard is extra thick with a beautiful rich kraft finish ready for any medium.

okay before we go any further, here is the graphic for this month and if you decide to play in our challenge, remember to add it to your post if you want to be in with a chance to win our sponsor’s prize! You can read all about it HERE (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.ca/2017/07/mixed-media-monthly-challenge-38 NULL.html#comment-form).

so for my project i had been planning on creating a positive affirmation sign in the entry way for when students/customers come and visit the studio so this was the perfect opportunity to create it using  chipboard bits!!

so i started with a base that I had created using  paper leather,  a TCW stencil, some crackle paste and some Emerald Creek embossing powder.

I then cut out a couple of flower pedals using the Eileen Hull Romance Flower die from Kunin felt and some canvas, added a bit of colour and  a bit of fabric stiffener, smooshed and then wrapped them in cling wrap to sit for the night

i am a self proclaimed hoarder of all things shiny but i thought it was time to use my little salvaged doll so off she went into a baggie with some alcohol in in red pepper

and then for the last step, after placing everything where i thought i wanted it on my framed panel to which i had added some patina effects, it was time to tackle my chipboard pieces.

so i played them down, dabbed some embossing ink on them and then sprinkled them with my all time favourite (well one of them anyway) embossing powders and then heat set them.. LOVE how these turned out and how they could be used and not having to worry about warping!!

and then using a bit of hot glue placed all bits together and here you have it..my completed project for the Mixed Media Monthly Design team!

thanks for stopping by !!! now how about sharing what you can do with some altered embellishments!! join us over at MMM challenge post (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.com/2017/07/mixed-media-monthly-challenge-38 NULL.html), check out the rules, and share share share!!!
