Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #38 – Positive affirmation

hello everyone!!

it has been quite a month for me and i am so very excited to be sharing with you here today that I am now a part of the Mixed Media Monthly team!!!!

and with that I am here today to post my first project for Mixed Media Monthly!! (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.ca/2017/06/mixed-media-monthly-challenge-38 NULL.html)

As you will know, each month means a new challenge at Mixed Media Monthly (http://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.com/ NULL. NULL. NULL./mixed-media-monthly NULL. NULL. NULL.), and this month our theme is “Altered Embellishments!

for my first challenge  with this team i was lucky enough to jump in using chipboard from UmWowStudio.

(https://2 NULL.bp NULL.blogspot NULL.com/-C7YEt98VJ5c/WVY1vjwUDgI/AAAAAAAAMIU/1q-FLkl2aMEonilPve74_Q52wbsVffkDQCLcBGAs/s1600/mixedmedia38umwow NULL.jpg)

UmWowStudio (https://umwowstudio NULL.com/)is an innovative – on trend – chipboard manufacturer located in Las Vegas, NV. Partnering with other companies & now amazing designers (this months design was created by our very talented Lynne Forsythe (http://lynneforsythe NULL.blogspot NULL.com/)) their line is always expanding. The  chipboard is extra thick with a beautiful rich kraft finish ready for any medium.

okay before we go any further, here is the graphic for this month and if you decide to play in our challenge, remember to add it to your post if you want to be in with a chance to win our sponsor’s prize! You can read all about it HERE (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.ca/2017/07/mixed-media-monthly-challenge-38 NULL.html#comment-form).

so for my project i had been planning on creating a positive affirmation sign in the entry way for when students/customers come and visit the studio so this was the perfect opportunity to create it using  chipboard bits!!

so i started with a base that I had created using  paper leather,  a TCW stencil, some crackle paste and some Emerald Creek embossing powder.

I then cut out a couple of flower pedals using the Eileen Hull Romance Flower die from Kunin felt and some canvas, added a bit of colour and  a bit of fabric stiffener, smooshed and then wrapped them in cling wrap to sit for the night

i am a self proclaimed hoarder of all things shiny but i thought it was time to use my little salvaged doll so off she went into a baggie with some alcohol in in red pepper

and then for the last step, after placing everything where i thought i wanted it on my framed panel to which i had added some patina effects, it was time to tackle my chipboard pieces.

so i played them down, dabbed some embossing ink on them and then sprinkled them with my all time favourite (well one of them anyway) embossing powders and then heat set them.. LOVE how these turned out and how they could be used and not having to worry about warping!!

and then using a bit of hot glue placed all bits together and here you have it..my completed project for the Mixed Media Monthly Design team!

thanks for stopping by !!! now how about sharing what you can do with some altered embellishments!! join us over at MMM challenge post (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.com/2017/07/mixed-media-monthly-challenge-38 NULL.html), check out the rules, and share share share!!!

Art with Heart Challenge – January

Hello there everyone. Eileen Hull’s January Art with Heart Challenge (http://www NULL.eileenhull NULL.com/2015/01/art-with-heart-challenge-january-fresh-ideas NULL.html) is up and running. We want to see your projects and you could win a new Vintage Kitchen 3-D Oven die!

our theme this month is ‘Fresh Ideas’ and for my project I wanted to create something fresh, new, for a friend of mine.

so i created her this set!!!sewing set

the loaf pan is perfect created into a pin cushion IMG_6125_2the cookie box die was made into a button holder

the centre button and the inside are both from a box of goodies one of my running buddies was giving away. the Singer paper reminds me of my mom and I am sure it will remind her of hers as well

IMG_5960and the window box die i created as a holder for spools of thread or quilt pins

IMG_6121_2the fabric pieces were specifically chosen for my friend… her birthday, her husbands birthday and their anniversary

IMG_6017all pieces were created using distress inks and layers of clear embossing powder. i wanted her to be able to handle them and trust them around her quilts with out worry of the distress ink rubbing off.

there is one more piece to this collection which i will be sharing later on this month.

i hope you like it.. i hope she likes it….  don’t forget to play along with the Art with Heart Challenge (http://www NULL.eileenhull NULL.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/art-with-heart-january-challenge-fresh-ideas-sizzix-prize-pack NULL.jpg)for your chance to own one of Eileen’s dies!

i am also linking up to Inspiration Journal (http://blog NULL.inspirationemporium NULL.com/?p=3165). the challenge over there for the month is ‘Fresh Start’ do join in on the challenges!!

til next time

TTT – January 2015

okay.. i am trying to do this again…. i am so hoping i take the time each month to sit a moment (or a few hours!) and create my own version of tim’s twelve tags (http://timholtz NULL.com/12-tags-of-2015-january/) 2015

i absolutely love the january tag.. every single thing about it. i don’t have all the same supplies but one doesn’t need to .. you just need to create with what you have. which is what i did!!

love the chit chat stickers…. they have so many words that stand on their own which is just what i want.. to be able to express exactly what i hope to have/achieve/live in 2015

wishes for 2015

though it is hard to see i used a mirrored sheet piece that was left over from a previous project… another one of my goals for 2015.. .to use what i have and not ‘save it’ for that ‘special project’

so here is my take own the first of i hope to be 12 tags of 2015. IMG_6180_2remember to jump on over to tim’s site to see his great step outs on how this is created!!

thanks for stopping by

i am hoping to be back with a tutorial on how i created this dragonfly later on this month!
until next time…

Spring time in Paris – Artist Trading Block

Hello everyone!!!! i am so excited to share with you my submission to the blog hop we, the Artist Trading Block team and the Altered Pages team  are having this month using the collage sheets from Altered Pages (http://alteredpages-artsociates NULL.blogspot NULL.com/)!!

and so now on to  my piece. We were given a choice of collage sheets to play with and the one  i decided to showcase was the Paris collage sheet. so let’s get to it!

first i had cut out from my black matboard (http://www NULL.sizzix NULL.com/product/656490/sizzix-little-sizzles-6-x-13-mat-board-pack-6-black-sheets) one of Eileen Hull’s XL Block (http://www NULL.sizzix NULL.com/product/658983/sizzix-scoreboards-xl-die-block-cube-bank-3-d) die along with one each of the other (http://www NULL.sizzix NULL.com/product/658984/sizzix-scoreboards-xl-die-blocks-cubes-3-d) three sizes, which i set aside to play with later. i then dug out my melt craft iron (http://shop NULL.purplecows NULL.net/melt-craft-iron-5050) and wax. i wanted to be able to merge my collage pictures right into the mat board and add a warmth to the whole piece.

my first step was to drip some black and white encaustic wax onto the matboard and spread it out with the iron.

eiffel tower in wax

i then laid my paper onto the mat board and dripped clear wax on top and then heat set until completely sealed.

heating wax with iron

i loved the sheen of the wax on the paperswax sheen

i then attached some May Arts (http://www NULL.mayarts NULL.com/) ribbon onto the  edges of the four sides of my cube and attached using the clear wax. (you will see this in my final photo’s)

now it was time to take on the inside of my Artist Trading Block.

so to start i glued my tiniest cube (1 1/2 squared) to the  2 1/2 cube using TomBow glue. i then added some of the same May Arts ribbon used on the outside to the inside flaps of the  2 1/2 square pieces and then dripped a bit of white wax which i set by using my Heat it (http://rangerink NULL.com/?product=heat-it%e2%84%a2-craft-tool) by Ranger.heat it meets wax

i love how it spread out through the details in the ribbon!

cloudy sky blue

i repeated it on the largest cube as well! isn’t the inside dreamy!!dark night meets summer day

i had wanted to find a small Eiffel Tower to put in the center but was unable to locate one.. i then thought of putting a little bucket to symbolize a bucket list item….but couldn’t find one of those either. so the next best thing of course is words. i chose ‘dreams do come true’ and placed then inside the smallest of the boxes but as you can see it didn’t show up that well.. so my wheels were turning…dark centre

but of course!! use Ranger’s metal foil tape sheets (http://rangerink NULL.com/?product=inkssentials%e2%84%a2-surfaces-metal-foil-tape-sheets) ranger foil lights it all up

what a big difference it made! now it can be read clearlydreams do come true

now it was time to add some finishing touches to my ATB.

so to start i dug out a couple of hitch fasteners (http://timholtz NULL.com/fasteners-products/)  and a piece of  jute string (http://timholtz NULL.com/prod_cat/trimmings/) and created a closure for the box.

and then it was time to create a stand to showcase my ATB!!

so out came my cupcake stand (http://www NULL.sizzix NULL.com/product/659246/sizzix-bigz-die-mini-cupcake-stand) which i created by cutting out of a piece of cardboard. i then glued the whole thing together using glossy accents. now seeing as this is a cupcake stand it need to be treated with some yummy goodness.. so out came my Viridian Sorbet (http://artanthologyinc NULL.com/products NULL.html) by Art Anthology and my pallet knife. i covered the whole stand in a thick coating and allowed it to dry. LOVE the sparkle and shine of my stand

if you are still with me here is my ATB for this month in all its glory!

IMG_1558 IMG_1560 IMG_1561 IMG_1564 IMG_1566

well there you have it. i will be gifting this to a dear person who had dreamed most of her life of making it to Paris (said of course with a french accent) someday…. and she did along with two of her dearest friends. i hope that she fills the inside with special pictures of the special trip.

so ‘dreams do come true’
