you’ve got ‘eclectic’ mail!!

oh my where to start.

this time last year i was away at a retreat and at this retreat were a couple of ‘ladies’ quilting away… i soooo envied them the ability to create with fabric. you see i had me some fabric that i just needed to do something with. i had purchased all the sets sold in 12×12 packs, a few square packages and a friend of mine had picked some up for me whilst she was travelling in the states.

i had created this wreath

and this iPhone case

oh and this bag for a special someone

and a few more things i added my much loved fabric too but what i really wanted to do was to create a  quilt. so i asked..or coerced…said ladies into teaching me.

so i patiently waited until the new year rolled around and ‘class’ to start. i had hit up our locally own quilting store for some of their in stock fabrics in the meantime and dreamt of the possibility

i must say i’ve discovered a few things in creating my quilt…

1. what this thing is actually used for.

you do what with this??2. instead of creating a consistent 1/4 inch seam i consistently sew totally inconsistent…but i am okay with that.

sewing straight?3.  same rule applies pretty much to cutting even though i have all kinds of lines and rulers that are meant to assist with that

learning to cut

4. it is okay if making a quilt is going to take me 192 weeks as some smart ass husband stated one day!!! LOL

189 weeks to go

5. what it’s NOT suppose to look like

what not to do

6. this is more like it

you've got mail!

oh and i suspect so many other things were learned along the way.

is my quilt perfect..oh to me it is. i am absolutely thrilled with it. with everything from the pattern chosen, the two special signature blocks (which i was beyond thrilled to get) and even the colour of the thread (i chose a rusty hinge colour)

special signatures now if only i had a clothesline or a pretty fence to take a picture of it but alas here is what i have come up with

you've got maili am seriously starting another one that i believe will be equally as loved and forever cherished as this one will be. i never dreamt i would be able to not only make a quilt but be able to proudly display it for years and years to come.

thank you my friends, all of you, for your special part in helping me make this dream come true.
