hello everyone!!
did you know that today, April 7th is National Tartan Day!!! neither did i until Kim from Emerald Creek Designs told me.. now today’s challenge is suppose to be anything goes but heck why not attempt to honour this day by creating my own tartan!!!
so off i went into creative mode and my biggest decision was which medium will i use and i decided on Tim Holtz distress paints with a finish touch of using one of Emerald Creeks brads
so here is my process:
i first start out with a sheet of Sizzix Paper leather in pink. i applied various colours of distress paint, turning each time i swiped paint with a pallet knife. I then placed and cut out one of Eileen Hull’s Recipe Card Holder by Sizzix
i then laid it out and decided that i need somehow to create a ‘tartan effect’ in diana style to it. so out came some tape ( i am not even sure what kind it was but it was sticky so i used it!!) i cut it in the length required to cover the length of the project but tore it so that my lines were not all going to be the same
i then used a distress paint to dab colour onto the recipe card box and this is what is was left with when i removed the tape
okay.. so that isn’t exactly the look i was going for so our came the tape again!!
now that is much better but still wasn’t quite what i was looking for…. and lookie here what just arrived in my studio.. the new Dylusion paint pens and they were perfect for the pop i was looking for.
next it was time to do a bit of decorating inside the recipe box holder so out came my Kimilese stamp and my Wendy Vecchi potting soil ink pad
and now it was time to do a bit of stitching around the entire outside edge of my holder (i forgot the pictures sorry!!)
so for this creation i needed to be sure the sides and bottom were sturdy so i cut out pieces of cardboard, glued them in place and then covered them using scraps from he original cut
and now here you have it..my creation for this months dare for Emerald Creek Designs.
to secure it closed i chose the jewelled brad and using one of tim’s elastic holders i rigged it up so it stayed closed.
here is the back of my travel set.wait did i say travel set??? did i mean recipe card holder????
yes!! it’s a travel set!! complete with a little mirror i created using a piece of Tim’s mirrored sheetabsolutely chuffed with how this turned out!!!! i have already had requests to make some for others….
now if only i am willing to share my Paper Leather Sheets..………
so be sure to visit the rest of the team and see what they have come up with!
enjoy your day my friends and let me know what you think!!
