well this is an unusual post for me. as you know if you follow me i have switched over from doing nothing but tags to art journalling, which i totally still love doing tags and they will always be my favorite mini pieces of art, but art journalling is where my heart is.
whew, that was a long intro to just say but not this time!!
this time i am bringing you a piece i created by taking the Tattered Floral Challenge put out there last week by non other than Tim Holtz. if you haven’t seen it, and i can’t imagine you haven’t, then please do pop on over and take a boo and than create, create, create!!
so for my piece it went through A LOT of changes before it became final.
so i started by cutting some tattered florals out of various things such as canvas, burlaps, craft glassine paper, sticky back canvas, grunge board and grungepaper, foil sheets and one other product!! see if you can guess which!!
next i gathered a few things together. i had something specific in mind that i wanted to try.
and then decided i needed a few more!!
what i wanted to do was the direct to craft sheet method
this was the first dip in the distress stains!! loved where this was going!
but then decided that it need just a little bit of extra colour!
aren’t the beads beautiful!
so than i though i would mix a little of my metallic distress stain with a splash of alcohol ink! so out came a little metal piece to play on
love it!!!!
then it was time to go back to the canvas. i mixed and mingled a few more colours and liked how it was turning out ….
until i add too much water!!! now the effect is quite cool but there was no way i was going to be able to dry this to maintain this look so i took a sheet out of my journal and soaked this creation up for a back ground for a new project.
so once that was complete i was left with a somewhat bare canvas EXCEPT for the places that i dropped some alcohol ink and i liked it so added a bit more!!! i love how the black turned brownish!
so here finally is a close up of some of my flowers. it may seem like the whole project was about the background but it truly did start with the tattered florals. i had layered all my flowers together using a mixture of the different mediums i had chosen and to give some of them colour i used distress stains, and alcohol inks and my favorite, distress inks.
i truly believe that life is made up of all the little moments so i wanted to be sure i added that onto this piece i was creating
and here is my finished project. it is a clock i have made celebrating the moment my future daughter in law said yes to my world, my monkey, my son.
and remember WAY back at the start of the post i asked you what other medium i used in creating the flowers for my piece??? anyone who guesses correctly i will put your name in for a draw for a wonderful little prize!!!!
a HUGE thank you to tim for sending out this challenge. i don’t know about you all but i find that i tend to get into a rut of sorts focusing on one way to do things and forgetting how many other wonderful things there are out there to do. and oh so many products to use!!
