Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #38 – Positive affirmation

hello everyone!!

it has been quite a month for me and i am so very excited to be sharing with you here today that I am now a part of the Mixed Media Monthly team!!!!

and with that I am here today to post my first project for Mixed Media Monthly!! (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.html)

As you will know, each month means a new challenge at Mixed Media Monthly (http://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL. NULL. NULL./mixed-media-monthly NULL. NULL. NULL.), and this month our theme is “Altered Embellishments!

for my first challenge  with this team i was lucky enough to jump in using chipboard from UmWowStudio.

(https://2 NULL.bp NULL.blogspot NULL.jpg)

UmWowStudio (https://umwowstudio an innovative – on trend – chipboard manufacturer located in Las Vegas, NV. Partnering with other companies & now amazing designers (this months design was created by our very talented Lynne Forsythe (http://lynneforsythe NULL.blogspot their line is always expanding. The  chipboard is extra thick with a beautiful rich kraft finish ready for any medium.

okay before we go any further, here is the graphic for this month and if you decide to play in our challenge, remember to add it to your post if you want to be in with a chance to win our sponsor’s prize! You can read all about it HERE (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.html#comment-form).

so for my project i had been planning on creating a positive affirmation sign in the entry way for when students/customers come and visit the studio so this was the perfect opportunity to create it using  chipboard bits!!

so i started with a base that I had created using  paper leather,  a TCW stencil, some crackle paste and some Emerald Creek embossing powder.

I then cut out a couple of flower pedals using the Eileen Hull Romance Flower die from Kunin felt and some canvas, added a bit of colour and  a bit of fabric stiffener, smooshed and then wrapped them in cling wrap to sit for the night

i am a self proclaimed hoarder of all things shiny but i thought it was time to use my little salvaged doll so off she went into a baggie with some alcohol in in red pepper

and then for the last step, after placing everything where i thought i wanted it on my framed panel to which i had added some patina effects, it was time to tackle my chipboard pieces.

so i played them down, dabbed some embossing ink on them and then sprinkled them with my all time favourite (well one of them anyway) embossing powders and then heat set them.. LOVE how these turned out and how they could be used and not having to worry about warping!!

and then using a bit of hot glue placed all bits together and here you have completed project for the Mixed Media Monthly Design team!

thanks for stopping by !!! now how about sharing what you can do with some altered embellishments!! join us over at MMM challenge post (https://mixedmediamc NULL.blogspot NULL.html), check out the rules, and share share share!!!

Heartfelt weekly journal

hello everyone!!!

today i am  sharing with you my first journal i created using one of Eileen Hull’s newest releases, journal (http://www NULL.sizzix

now this is a game changer for sure. there are simply so many possibilities for this one single die. i can see one for travel, one for birthday’s, one for an exercise journal, one for quote collections, etc

i created it by painting the outside of the covers using a variety of metallic and acrylic paints and added a few stamps and that is how quick and simply fast  it was.

then it was time to decorate the inside. for that i cut out pieces of paper, which i folded to make two pages. at the start of each month

here is a quick video of a flip through for you:

and here are some still shots

i hope you have stopped by Eileen’s blog (http://www NULL.eileenhull checked out the links to the other inspiration team’s projects!! there are some mighty fine ones there each week for you to take a boo at!

Recycled spray bottle

hello everyone!!

when i think i spring i think of all the newness about to happen..the renewal of all things that ‘slept’ for the last few seasons…. and that got me to thinking about today’s project for Ken Oliver Crafts

i love when i am able to create a piece that is both recycled and useable… it just gives me great satisfaction.

so let’s get going.. many moons ago when i first took up scrapbooking my teacher at the time told me to keep everything bigger than a pencil…i guess we didn’t realize how much stuff i would end up accumulating through the years by doing so.  i did however stop saving all paper and kept it to just a few manufacturers that i loved.

and that brings me to today’s project. i absolutely love the colour/collection of Ken’s Hometown papers.  so when i created these projects i saved my bits and here is what i did

i started by using an old starch container and applied bits of paper using glue n seal. once it was dry i outlined all the bits with my fude ball pen

recycling with Ken Oliveri then did a bit of random stamping using Ken Olivers Click-it pads and stamps in Walnut

click-it and stampinglove how it all blends together!

next it was time to add a bit of personalization to my project. i cut out some letters and attached them with glue n seal as well and then applied some foils to the top!

and here you have it. my recycled sprayer i will be using in my studio!!

my wee mom

hello everyone!!

my mom

this week we were given an open theme at Emerald Creek (http://blog NULL.emeraldcreek which are definitely my favourite kind of challenges.  it allows me to create just to create and I wanted to say a piece from my heart but then all my pieces are from my heart… I wonder if maybe that is why it takes me so long to come up with, create and finish some pieces….

todays project I will be showing you lots of pictures so you can see how I created this piece featuring a picture of my mom as  a wee little girl. this picture hung outside my Nanny’s bedroom for many years and the only way to get a copy was to take a picture of it.. I now possess the original and this is a piece I shall treasure with all my heart for always.

so let’s see those pictures you say…okay here we go!!

so i started off with these mini clipboards that i found at my local stationary store

mini clipboard

i started out doing what  i thought was a clever idea, creating my own stencil using one of the pieces from tim’s mixed media (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=316467)only to discover after the fact that there was already a harlequin stencil (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.htm)(but of course!!)

creating a stencili had applied some clear texture paste through this on to my clipboard and then i applied some paper along with some distress crackle paint.crackle pastenext i rubbed direct to the clip board my DIY archival ink pad (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=330323)in reds

DIY Archival Ink pads

and then i stamped the ledger script (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=327591)in black archival ink

stampingi was pretty pleased with the background so it was time to move on but not before i added some of the burnt copper leaves (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.htm) embossing powder from emerald creek in various spots!!
emerald creek burnt copperI then added some gold paint and the ledger stamp to my trellis frameworks (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=133472)die cut piece and glued it down the side of my clipboardstamping trellis

next I stamped the Tim Holtz Love You (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=316457) framelit set onto my Sizzix Paper Leather sheets (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=335911) and heat set it using  Emerald Creeks clear embossing powder (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.htm). (you need to be quick when using Archival ink for embossing as it dries much faster than distress ink but I love the deep black the archival ink gives the piece)heat setting bird&nestI also dug out my alcohol inks in Raisin (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=46571)and Hazelnut (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=46717) and inked the Ideaology Stencil marks (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=112227),  the clip on my board and then ran my felt over various spots on my piece to bring it all together

1946 in alcohol ink

then it was time to assemble my piece.

watching over usI also added rub ons to various places along the background and a chitchat sticker to the bottom corner

my siblings and ias you can probably tell I added distress crackle paste in clear rock candy (https://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=80919)to almost the entire piece.  I wanted to show you something special that I came across while creating this piece.. a message of love from above

message of loveshe sent me the feather I am sure to let me know she was right there with me while I was creating this piece of heART

and here you have it once again.. my finished piece of my wee mom.

happy holidays

hello everyone!! can you believe that it is almost Christmas!! this year has flown by. it’s been a year with so many things happening .. both good and bad.

today I am here to share with you a fun little project I created for the Emerald Creek Dares  (http://blog NULL.emeraldcreek! this month was all about wishing you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Solstice and a very Joyous Seasons Greetings to you all!

for tradition wise here in my home it is all about the food!! whether that is the array of choices at a family gathering, the scrumptious finger foods on Christmas eve or the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings and oh so many dessert choices on Christmas Day

this week we are all about sharing our holiday wishes with you!!!

ECC Blog Header

so my project well it started out by mistake really.. i was playing with a bit of Ice Resin (http://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=79427) when i realized i had made too much and as i am not one to waste anything iECC Blog Header decided i would coat a piece of tissue paper (http://www NULL.simonsaysstamp NULL.aspx?id=304741) i had on my desk in some of the resin. i also was in the middle of creating my tags for classes and happened to have a cut out of the sewing room die on my desk and some Vintage Glitter so naturally that lead me to making an Ice Resin dress and that is where it all began!

Ice Resin and glitter

so once my dress form was covered i began assembling my canvas. first i spread a coat of gel medium to the back of the paper and then i applied it to the burlap canvas making sure to press it down to adhereice resin gel medium

as i wasn’t sure yet what i was going to do with my canvas, which direction i wanted to take it in i applied some clear texture paste through a stencil to my canvas and set it aside to dry (i had sprinkled some of the vintage distress glitter onto the wet paste prior to setting it aside)

transparent texture pastenow i did know that i wanted my dress form to be the focal point so i needed to create a background for her.

i started with one of the cabinet cards which i sanded and then applied some ground expresso to.. once again i wasn’t quite sure where i was going with this but did know it had to have ground expresso!!

cabinet / ground expresso

then it was a matter of layering. originally i was attempting to just put a piece of paper into the frame but ended up deciding it needed to be layered on top of the frame and with a few runs through the sewing machine this is what i ended up with

IMG_4155so now i knew i had the background i needed/wanted for my dress form but what to do with the rest of the canvas…..

i had cut out some angel wings from my ice resin paper and i liked how they looked with a bit off added glitter from the stickles but they didn’t stand out enough. i didn’t have the newest wing die that i had seen created in so many ways over on Paula’s site (http://www NULL.oneluckyday NULL.html) but what i did have is the feather duo die so thought why can’t feathers be i was trying to decide whether to go with the brown or whitish ones… also i was thinking i needed these snowflakes on my canvas… i still wasn’t quite sure at this point what i wanted…

angel in progress

well it wasn’t long and i was on a roll which means i totally forgot to take pictures of the whole process but basically i started cutting and creating flowers!!! i attached them and the leaves/holly using a hot glue gun. if you look really close you will see that i put in some of Emerald Creeks pinecones (http://www NULL.emeraldcreek NULL.htm).. these little things should be in everyone shopping cart by now. seriously how cute really are they!!

EC close up canvasso then it was just a matter of putting it all together and in the end this is what i ended up with
EC canvasand a couple of close ups!
