my crafty weekend

i just arrived home from a wonderful scrappy retreat hosted by our local scrapbook store A PILE OF SCRAP!

what a wonderful crazy fast weekend it was. it started out officially at 7:00pm on Friday night and wrapped up right after lunch on Sunday. There were games and free classes through out the weekend and the first one was Friday night which was taught by  Megan in which the ladies created a beautiful wall hanging using the Epiphany punches. i was all gung-ho friday night thinking i was going to get so much done. i was going to use up all those bits and pieces of scraps i took and i was going to create zoodles and zoodles of layouts.. i created three Friday night. i turned in at 1:00am ish

Saturday was going to be a busy crazy day for me. i was up and showered and back in the hall at 8:30. i knew i had a class to teach at 10:00 so thought i would get a start on painting a canvas i wanted to recreate based off pictures i have drolled over on Dyan’s site. i haven’t yet finished mine and hopefully when i am done this post and have my wine poured then i can head into the craft room, unpack and play.

So back to the 10:00 am class.

there were 15 ladies who took the class and did the following four tags

i loved seeing those who took their time and appreciate the works of art they were creating and believe me there were a few of them that truly were works of art. the ladies had the opportunity to play with glimmer mist and chalk, paint dabbers, claudine hellmuth paints and stamps, and of course two Tim tags, one of which was a version of one i took from a Tim class last March

then it was time to play a little more on my own stuff. now mind you that is in between all the gossip and fun and oohing and aahing over others works of art. it was a fun day and i am glad i had the chance to create another, yup only one more layout!, that whole day.

at 7:00pm it was time to teach the perpetual calendar class… now this was a whole lot of chaos and drama all rolled into one. i had THIRTY THREE students attend my class out of the 44 ladies attending the retreat!!  this I hear was a record for class attendance since the inception of GHL 6 retreats ago.  it was a very VERY challenging class in the trying to keep things rolling and everyone happy all at the same time kind of way!! Here is the calendar i made and will have hanging in my craft room for a long time coming. i loved the ideas gleamed from the students. DeeDee, one of the sweetest women you’ll every meet, came up with the idea of creating a pocket in the back to hold all the months in!! brilliant i say!!  i have a few more to make as i want to make specific ones for holidays such as Christmas, New Years Eve, Halloween, birthdays, etc…

i loved all those who took the time to realize that this was  a class meant to inspire you; a project in which you are given the basics and  it would turn out just fine as it was BUT that you could take it and run with it.. make it your own once you venture home. I loved that some took the time to make each number that was significant to them totally specific for them. others wanted just to get a number in the square and they were totally content with that.  A huge thank you to all those who attended and enjoyed my classes.

now i have to add a couple of favorite moments(and quotes are remembered to the best of my ability for i tore up my sheet of paper that had the quotes on them to make numbers for the draw!)  from the weekend:

a quote from Barb who said ‘ at one point i had so much crackle paint on my fingers i felt like a kid again. we all need to feel like that sometimes don’t we’. Yes Barb we so do.

a quote from Lynn who said ‘ yes this is an expensive hobby and i can’t imagine how much money in merchandise is in this room  but sure is a heck of a lot cheaper than therapy!”. Oh so very true.

and when Cindy( i hope that is her name)  came up to me in the calendar class and gave me a hug to thank me and say how much she is enjoying the class. she had no idea how much i needed to hear that at that particular moment. thank you very much to all my wonderful students

i have spent the last couple of hours here at home with my calendar and wine glass and adjusting a few pieces from memories of such babbles from others; attaching the little wine glass and bottle i received from Barb and i have wrapped my bobbin with some ‘thread’ and left a little piece hanging because Ricki said that as a seamstress she knows there are always loose threads (or something like that!)

So all in all a totally fantastic weekend with wonderful friends and acquaintances. i can’t wait til the next one in January. In the meantime i need to get my butt in gear to finish (or start as the case may be) classes for November!

til next time…

HAPPY SCRAPPING!!!
