hello everyone!! diana here again with my latest Art on the Block piece!!
i must say i am a little or a lot addicted to them but i have to say i was warned prior to even getting my hands on them that i would be there are so very many things one can do with them. you so need to check them out here on the Artist on the Block page as well as the many many examples shown here on Eileen Hull’s pinterest page and of course here on Sizzix page
so on to my creation this month.
i started out using one of my Sizzix movers and shapers Tim Holtz design dies, family and cut it out of a piece of mat board. i had a bit of issue with it but a quick email and figured it was probably just from the layering of the mat board so i was a little gentler and it seemed to work.
so i coated it in tattered rose and picket fence crackle paint and set it aside to dry
i love all the cracks!! so antiquish!! (yes probably not a word but you know what i mean right!)
next it was time to do some stamping. i tried to think of all the words for ‘family’ i could come up with an i stamped away using black archival ink. i then used a bit of tea dye distress ink on my blocks and then did a quick cover of utee
i of course ended up getting lost in the whole process.
i know i used Eileen’s Trinity’s flower die by Sizzix which i inked and crumbled and inked again prior to attaching to the top of the ATB
i also used some rub ons from tim holtz which i put under one of the drawer pulls
i used some crinkle ribbon which i dyed using some distress reindeers
and added a bit of tulle and twine to complete my flower
i love how this project turned out. it is going to look perfect along side my other ATB’s
i figure i can do a whole shelf of them with candles to light up my art room
the lid is easily removed by using the drawer pull to place a battery operated tea light inside
one can always place the lid to the side i guess!!!

Your block is gorgeous Diana and I love the beautiful flower and the clever way you used the word family – and of course, the fabulous crackling…. Anne x
Diana this is gorgeous! Love your creativity ^.^
[…] Diana Hetherington also got her “crackle on” with this fantastic Family ATB! […]
Now that’s clever Diana! I have one of those word dies and it didn’t even occur to me to use it that way. The look you got with the crackle and multiple stamping is superb. Definitely so many ideas to store in the memory banks. Thank you for sharing. Jenny x
Love this, such a clever idea to cut the word around the corner, inspired!
What a lovely box! The vintage colors and textures are just perfect and I love the way you stamped all the family words and the cut-out word is a brilliant way to add a votive candle to it. Your handmade flower is gorgeous!
Well done, cutting out the letters is a fun idea and the crack paint is a lovely finish.
This is beautiful, Diana! Love the way you wrapped the word ‘family’ around the corner, especially.
